A friend has some cameras that have a simple web interface with activex so they work under IE.

What make? The only ones I've used that had an activex plugin also had something that would work under Firefox without it (Axis and Panasonic)

The firmware on the camera can send an email on motion detect and I want to use the receipt of the email to click a the record button on the camera web interface, agree to the default file name, and a few minutes later click the stop recording button.
Does anyone know of an open source tool I can do this with?

Email -> .forward -> a script running curl?

Gordon

They are Solwise SEC-C1002-IR.
Curl doesn’t (as I understand) allow button clicking etc and running javascript on the page. I need to be able to inspect the status of a button and then click it, agree to the filename in the alert box to set the recording going and then click the button again to turn of the recording a few minutes later. I used to be able to do this with the IE OLE many moons ago but don’t have any windows stuff that I'm prepared to play with - though there could be a lot of dosh getting cheap cameras to do what more expensive systems do... There were form/website-excercising apps around but I cant find one at the mo..
