Brilliant day! good to put some faces to names! New people too! Jamie
enjoyed the meet too. Shame about the wifi but there are reasons. I
popped in to see Matt at orakle to get some more rj45s and to ask about
it, the result was that he has it disabled for security. The trouble is
that the particular AP we were trying to connect to was on the same
network as all the tills and therefore Matt didnt want people on it. He
will (if jon wants him to) setup a vlan for public access in future.

Anyway was good a good day!

Thanks for the comments. I was pleased by the turnout this time. I even understood some of the things you were talking about!! Will you be explaining to Jon about the wifi?

Next meeting on 16th October. Already booked.

Neil

I spoke to Matt at Orakle about it, he is good friends with Jon and as i said earlier, he does all his networking. As you all noticed, the wifi is WEP, the reason for this is that the tills etc can only hande wep too (old tech). Matt said that its upto Jon whether he wants to upgrade things and introduce VLANs etc. For now, if Jon is happy with it(Matt is not lol), he will allow us to connect and use it, but im sure you can all appreciate the security flaw in this.

Apparently DHCP was off, but was on another subnet. I didnt try 192.168.2.* lol. But either way, connecting wouldn't have worked as there was nothing on the other end.

Anyway, so long as you enjoyed it Neil, did you have a good look at kitz.co.uk? I had another look at it yesterday and learned some more again!

Regards

Dave
