Government Gateway ID.
All actions with government that say 'apply on line' end with the
requirement for a print off , sign it and send it off.
e.g. driving licence application, benefit claims, HMRC, Company House, etc.

Use of (Government Gateway) and password for the government dept.
sometimes avoids signing and sending.

The on line entry is to save them inputting it into their systems
manually on receipt of form. They still need the 'signature page' to be
able to process and if necessary produce signature document in court
for actions against you. It is not truly 'on line'.

As I deal with many departments (local and national goverment)on my own
and various companies behalf I have a lot of these "Government Gateway
IDs" it appears to be per function/dept not per person imputing stuff.
