You know, not the obviously burned onto a cdr type? Just thinking if the LUG could stage an Ubuntu day at the college (South Devon College). They had demo tastings of Ubuntu Cola today and that + this conversation made me think it might be possible to talk to the Student Liason team who usually arrange these kinda things. This idea comes up again and again - the stumbling block is always getting hold of "official-looking" media, whether that is CDROM or USB.
I've run out of CDs, I think maybe it would be better to wait until Ubuntu 10.04 LTS comes too, that way the students are getting a long term release version. The other issue is cost, although Canonical did give out free CDs in multiple quantities (I used to get about 25 to 50 at a time), I believe they have stopped the free Shipit service now and you have to pay for the discs which isn't cheap. Even getting our own discs professional duplicated would cost quite a bit (a couple of grand at least last time I looked into it about 3 years ago).
Still it might be worth checking if Canonical still do the shipit service. Rob -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/linux_adm/list-faq.html
