We use a Netgear DG834G wifi 4 port router, and have been using it for about 3 months with no problems. It rarely needs rebooting although it is switched off over overnight using a timer. We have been very pleased with it. Prior to that, we Zoom router which I would not recommend. It was cheap but, ran hot and often needed rebooting. It only lasted about 1 year before failing completely.

I have a Netgear DG834 too which has always just worked (although I don't use it now as I'm on cable). Might be worth bearing in mind Viv, that if you're on an up to 8 Meg connection which goes over BT (not BT retail, but BT wholesale as a lot of up to 8 meg connections do) then you may find turning the router on and off will actually degrade your connection to the point where BT will slow it down. It's all down to the IP Profile. I used to occasionally power cycle my router to get onto a different BT central connection when I was with Enta (before they went over to IPSC). The problem is, the kit at the BT exchange thought that I had line issues and ended up reducing my IP Profile down to about 1750KBit/sec despite the line syncing at over 7000Kbit/sec. This automatically reduced my line speed to about 1.5MBit/sec from about 7MBit/sec.

Suffice to say, eventually I called Enta and they re-set it and from then on, I simply went into the web interface and logged off and logged back on.

You can find more about the IP Profile here: http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/IPprofile.htm

The moral of the story is, try and avoid powering off your ADSL router unless absolutely necessary (such as maybe going on holiday).

Thanks Rob - I didn't know that. I have just tested the speed and it is coming out at 5565 download and 380 upload. We are with an Entanet Reseller - Vivaciti. Do you think it may be worth asking them to reset our IP Profile? Actually, I was quite pleased with that speed - it used to be slower. Do you think that the fact that we are using TV on demand much more now may have improved the IP Profile?

I had to go direct to Enta, you might be worth ringing them directly. I don't think TV on demand would alter the IP profile, I gather it's something to do with the connection rather than what runs over it.
