Got that but Chrome is twice as fast even with jit enabled at

That sounds wrong.

Even the benchmark folk don't claim that lead for Chrome javascript.

Sure there isn't a plugin fouling up. The JIT definitely works on this
processor?

Dunno. It's an Intel Atom or 4. (Dual core HT - 2GB of RAM)

Just tried again and chrome is definately a lot faster than FF3.5.2. Maybe I'm missing some other tweak in FF - I haven't realy looked that much into making it faster.

This:

  http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/09/07/1417255

took about 20 seconds before it printed 'Done' in firefox, and about 14 in Chrome. A reload in firefox takes 17 seconds now. Firefox just has user agent switcher (disabled), adblock+ and flashblocker installed, nothing else.

However, much digging about just now and I find 2 things to speed-up
Linux which caused some confion! Theres the new memory management which
is what that article in the INQ is about - that's in 2.6.31, not releaed
yet, and there is also a new scheduller - as a patch to 2.6.30 which
will probably never be in a mainstream kernel.

They are unlikely to be relevant if you have enough memory, and aren't
running a different mix of apps whilst using firefox as when using Chrome.

If it is memory footprint difference (i.e. you don't have enough RAM to
run Firefox without paging) better memory management will help but it
won't make a significant difference.

Plenty of RAM. Just musing on my desktop, but I do have a few servers which are thrashed about a bit as my clients won't upgrade them, so it might be an idea to see how they fare with 2.6.31 when it's stable enough.
