Re: [LUG] Printer problem on Ubuntu Intrepid server

2009/5/14 kevin <kevin.lucas@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
I have found the version of driver makes all the difference if you
originally got up to 20% of the test page sent.

see the printer logs?
# tail -30 /var/log/cups/error_log

should get you  in the right place

if the job is flushed the the driver is wrong try another..
It looks more like some sort of permissions issue, here's the last few entries from this morning:
E [14/May/2009:11:46:44 +0100] Cancel-Job: Unauthorized
E [14/May/2009:11:48:03 +0100] CUPS-Delete-Printer: Unauthorized
E [14/May/2009:11:50:45 +0100] CUPS-Add-Modify-Printer: Unauthorized
E [14/May/2009:11:54:07 +0100] Cancel-Job: Unauthorized
E [14/May/2009:11:54:07 +0100] DNS Service Discovery registration error -65537 for "HP"!
(Some appeared more than once, so I've copied one of each over). The printer was set up in CUPS as 'HP'.
I have a lot of joy from the {PrinterName)}Foomatic/hpijs for many
parallel connected laser printers.
you can set this on the Admin page.

https://192.168.0.20:631/admin gets me to mine. Need https though.
you can see this from a network machine rather than use W3m
OK, I wasn't using https, I can now connect from another machine to https://equium:631 (equium is the name of the server) and can see the CUPS front page. From here I was able to go into 'Manage Jobs' and cancel the job from this morning, however most pages I go into come up 'connection refused' and there are some more entries in the error log:
E [14/May/2009:19:08:47 +0100] CUPS-Delete-Printer: Unauthorized
E [14/May/2009:19:08:53 +0100] cupsdAuthorize: Empty Basic username!
E [14/May/2009:19:08:57 +0100] CUPS-Delete-Printer: Unauthorized
E [14/May/2009:19:09:04 +0100] cupsdAuthorize: pam_authenticate() returned 7 (Authentication failure)!
E [14/May/2009:19:09:04 +0100] CUPS-Delete-Printer: Unauthorized
E [14/May/2009:19:09:09 +0100] cupsdAuthorize: Empty Basic password!
E [14/May/2009:19:09:09 +0100] CUPS-Delete-Printer: Unauthorized
E [14/May/2009:19:10:18 +0100] encrypt_client: Unable to encrypt connection from 192.168.1.69!
E [14/May/2009:19:10:18 +0100] encrypt_client: A TLS fatal alert has been received.
E [14/May/2009:19:10:54 +0100] Purge-Jobs: Unauthorized
(Again, some duplicates). I've found this page by Googling one of the error messages, haven't had a chance to test it yet though: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=610428. Will test and post again once fixed (or not...).
