Subject: [LUG] Warning - Any Mandriva Users Out There!!! A Rant.

>From being a big Mandriva fan, I am now very disillusioned with them and will be re-installing with Ubuntu or Kubuntu 9.04 which I used, installed on a pen drive to rescue my data. I find it appalling that a distro upgrade would be pushed through to users with what is obviously such a major bug. I would have understood a few minor issues but not something like this that made my laptop totally unusable.

If you are a big mandriva fan why not stick with the previous version if it does what you want.

I’m sticking to intrepid for the same reason. On my laptop ati graphics are no longer supported. The open driver works but I like to play games.

On my netbook the intel graphics support is shocking due to the way xorg has changed.

As intrepid works perfectly I’m just sticking with that.

I have just lost confidence in the distro now. The laptop was dual boot windows xp so, I had that to fall back on but, I don't think I should need to keep Windows in case Linux lets me down.

Ubuntu / Kubuntu has big user base. I used it previously and never had such major problems with an upgrade as this time, with Mandriva. If I continued with Mandriva now, I would always be concerned that patches or updates would "break it" again.

For me, reliability is more important than anything else.

Maybe I should use Debian? For reliability, what do other members think I should choose? I use email, office, watch films, use rdp for logging onto work and do some photo editing - that is about it.
