Are you using a BT Home Hub? I found (when I had BT Broadband) that the Speed would start off quite high and then slowly drop the longer I was connected - If you switched off (not just disconnect) the Home Hub you might find the speed increases again. Also different times of the day seems to affect the speed also. Also a little known tip:You shouldn't have to pay full price for BT Total Broadband whatever option you go for - When I first started I was paying (for Option 1) £17.99 a month but as my contract came to an end (you have to be on a yearly contract) you can negotiate the price down (I was paying £12.99 by the time I left BT) and friends who joined after me always got (if they asked for it) the same price as me. Hope this helps.
