I've discovered Google's Mobilizer (http://www.google.com/gwt/n) and 
Skweezer (http://www.skweezer.com) and they work well at making things 
fit on the screen - they're just pig ugly to use. ;)

Nokia's own browser takes up very little extra space on the screen - 
only a handful of pixels at the top and at the bottom; and OperaMini 
takes up no extra space at all (when set to fullscreen mode).
