Microphones are a really complicated subject, I learnt that much in my broadcasting training. If you want I can ask at work and see if there is anything inexpensive that would do the job? I'm guessing you don't need any professional standard microphone (IIRC, the ones we use at work for outside broadcasts are about £100+).
