I read the report and thought I will go and take a look at Dell. I
need a new laptop and I am thinking of Apple once again. So I head
over to Dell and knock up a rough spec similar to an Apple and it
comes out more expensive. Ok I didn't have the choice of removing xp
but still it makes me think - buy Apple.

Why am I saying this? Well Ubuntu does need a Dell to promote it and
to do it now. I might be thinking differently if I had run the same
spec and picked Ubuntu and found £80 less. But then again maybe not.

Why not do the obvious, buy Apple and run Ubuntu on it.  It'll cost you no more than using Tiger and you'll have the bebefits:- Ubuntu is reliable, free and friendly.  Tiger is reliable, free with a new machine but not as friendly as Ubntu and is about to be superceded by Leopard for no doubt more money.  Robin
