Thanks to everyone who replied about my video problem on Ubuntu.

It seemed we (my wife and I) were lacking the packages kaffeine-xine and
w32codecs.  Both now installed, and we are watching the videos we want to
in kaffeine.  The message "no URI handler implemented for rtsp://..."
appeared because we were trying to use gstreamer as backend; switching to
xine solved our problem.  I am still thinking whether, or how, the message
itself could be made plainer for the benefit of the comparatively
inexperienced.

On another topic entirely, did list-members see the item on BBC news last
night in which some schoolchildren were invited to compare Vista with a
Mac --- and no third possibility was even mentioned ?

Yes, let's ask the eight-year-olds of this country what they think about Vista, a Mac and Ubuntu GNU/Linux Feisty Fawn Herd 2 Development Release Candidate.

None of the responses are of any use or consequence, but the latter would not even get a response beyond "mummy, the nasty man is scaring me with wierd words."

It is well-known that I am blunt and unsophisticated. It's largely your fault if you object to this.
