Yep, and you've answered your own question. Webmail is a great option 
for many people. It's only downsides are speed of display and a 
sometimes clumsy user interface. If that doesn't bother you, great. :)

Personally, I'm a big fan of using dovecot as an imap server and 
operating from that. Thunderbird handles imap reasonably well.
