Use GIMP.... plugs in to sane, and as long as you spend a little time to
realize that scanning is actually simple you're laughing.

/etc/sane.d/dll.conf is the key to it all...

however read the docs, it _is_ worth it. I had scanning up and working
in under 30 minutes once i realized a few things and thats on an
OfficeJet G85 which is not directly suported.
