Perhaps someone would care to elaborate?

OOo handles .doc files far better than Office itself, in situations where the versions of Office that saved and are trying to load the file are different.
It reminds me of Samba (another OSS implementation of a Microsoft technology) because Samba outperforms SMB by quite a lot on most networks, or so I'm told.
