I am very happy to be convinced either way. Would you > recommend postgreql over mysql? Generally yes, I prefer working with Postgres, the syntax is simpler, and it tends to "do the right thing" by default. The only exception being the default security settings (which the Debian packagers sort when they create their package). However the reasons to prefer Postgres are purely down to liking the small, do it right first time, mentality, and the comprehensive support for more heavyweight database functionality (although I rarely use anything beyond the basics). MySQL definitely has more packages around, and these days most of the things like, so if you are going to have a machine, and drag a lot of third party database apps in, it may make more sense to go with MySQL. If Knoda is truely agnostic, I'd suggest Postgres, if it turns out that in reality lots of people use it with MySQL but don't use the Postgres or other database options, I wouldn't struggle to bend it to my will. -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/linux_adm/list-faq.html
