It ought to be just "uint64_t" but you'd be surprised how much work went into getting uint64_t to work, and Neil probably needs to be compatible with GNU Cash. I believe GNU Cash runs on more platforms than GNU Chess, so they might need to do even more just to get uint64_t everywhere. Getting a portable uint64_t was hard work, fortunately more platforms will have C99 by now.
