I am having problem with gconf, in that the server keeps restarting - Running Debian Etch, Gnucash - The only programs that I run that might rely on gconf if - Gnucash - Gnumeric - I have run Gnumeric and uninstalled it (but I still have a $~/.gconf/apps directory containing information on gnumeric - I have read http://www.gnome.org/projects/gconf/ three times and still have not managed to understand what the heck is happening. However I have run gconftool-2 --shutdown and gconf-sanity-check (as root, by mistake; not as user..... NOW I see the advantage of sudo) Anyway my syslog entry is now as follows Apr 18 15:40:24 localhost gconfd (henry-6665): starting (version 2.14.0), pid 6665 user 'henry' Apr 18 15:40:24 localhost gconfd (henry-6665): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory" to a read-only configuration source at position 0 Apr 18 15:40:24 localhost gconfd (henry-6665): Resolved address "xml:readwrite:/home/henry/.gconf" to a writable configuration source at position 1 Apr 18 15:40:24 localhost gconfd (henry-6665): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults" to a read-only configuration source at position 2 Apr 18 15:40:24 localhost gconfd (henry-6665): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/var/lib/gconf/debian.defaults" to a read-only configuration source at position 3 Apr 18 15:40:24 localhost gconfd (henry-6665): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/var/lib/gconf/defaults" to a read-only configuration source at position 4 Apr 18 15:47:42 localhost kernel: ISO 9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet Level 3 Apr 18 15:47:42 localhost kernel: ISOFS: changing to secondary root Apr 18 15:48:57 localhost kernel: ISO 9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet Level 3 Apr 18 15:48:57 localhost kernel: ISOFS: changing to secondary root Apr 18 15:49:02 localhost kernel: ISO 9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet Level 3 Apr 18 15:49:02 localhost kernel: ISOFS: changing to secondary root Apr 18 15:49:10 localhost kernel: ISO 9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet Level 3 Apr 18 15:49:10 localhost kernel: ISOFS: changing to secondary root Apr 18 15:49:12 localhost kernel: ISO 9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet Level 3 Apr 18 15:49:12 localhost kernel: ISOFS: changing to secondary root Questions: 1/ Can anyone point me in the right direction - to stop this gconf server starting - to stop this ISO 9660 error message (I presume this is because I ran gconftool-2 etc as root as opposed to user) 2/ I presume that there is no problem if I remove the directory $/.gconf/apps/gnumeric? Or would it be better if I removed gnucash, removed the directory and then reinstalled it? Any assistance much appreciated -- Henry
