I think the recent releases produce much better mark-up, and will fix-up broken markup in files that it opens if you ask it to (like "tidy" does).
Just checked a few sites by a website designer I know who uses it, and there are three basic errors that repeat through out the Dreamweaver sites I checked (incorrect "margin attributes" for document type, missing alt tags, and not sticking "type" in script).
Of course that may be just how he is using it, and he certainly wouldn't ~ claim to be an HTML guru (art college graduate, paid to make pretty picture most of the time).
