I have been using Sid for several months on both my work and home desktop machines and have not lost the desktop yet although apt-get can sometimes leave a program in an unusable condition for a few weeks. Only once have I had to revert to a previous version of some updated software to get me out of a hole. I am not about to blame anyone but myself if this sort of thing or worse causes me problems. It's my choice to opt for an unstable distro after all. I guess I am just hooked on having the latest versions.
Thanks Tony. I am persuaded.
Here's how I deal with my employers Exchange server. I grab my email into kmail via pop3 onto my work machine and make quite sure that my Mail folder (about 80mb) is backed up. For everything else and other places I use Outlook Web Access. I have given up reading work emails at home. That way lies chaos.
I currently only spend about 1 day/week at 'work'. Therefore I really need this the other way round! I need to be able to get my 'work' emails at home. At the moment I am having to use the web-mail interface, but it's truly a horrid thing. Unfortunately the address the college uses for me is their own @cornwall.ac.uk address, and that's the one in the Exchange directory, so that's the one that my colleagues will use since they can then just type "Grant" and get a list with me in it. It saves them having to maintain their own address books. I will spend another little while trying to get this sorted. If it turns out to be a royal pain in the proverbial, then I may have a word with the College IT dept and request that they either set up mail forwarding for me or change the entry in the Exchange database to my home address. If it comes to that, I would prefer the former since I can then keep the @cornwall.ac.uk address, which to be honest, goes better on business cards.
