But if we became less European, it would be hard to become other than more 
American, thus tending to take the ludicrous patenting with the rest of the 
package.

It isn't a package to dismiss absolutely, although the quality control has 
dipped recently, but the Original States rejoining the ones that split off a 
while back doesn't sound very likely to me.
