Yes. If you'd like to send me some of your answers and anyone with tips or
contributions to make a list of pointers, links to reputable / trusted sites,
details of where to get more information etc. I'll prepare a page to link to
the main list-faq page.

Something else I want to add is a page (or more likely a link to a remote
page) about the acronyms that people use. I've had to look up WIKI myself:

http://www.wiki.org/wiki.cgi?WhatIsWiki
<quote>
Wiki is a piece of server software that allows users to freely create and edit
Web page content using any Web browser. Wiki supports hyperlinks and has a
simple text syntax for creating new pages and crosslinks between internal
pages on the fly.

Are other members interested? It would need a fair amount of contributors to
be worthwhile.

Hmm. People don't but winmodems, they but a PC with a winmodem thrown in
virtually for nothing. I tried a USB modem and it wouldn't dial under Mdk9.
I've got two of my own winmodems working through helpful Linux people. Seems
like there is very definitely a need for consideration and helpful support of
internal PCI modems. The basic point is that why shouldn't someone ask how to
get their existing modem working (when a lot of them CAN work under Linux
now) rather than forking out more cash? A free OS that incurs hardware costs
is a little bit sour. There is information in the DCLUG archive on solving
these win/linmodem problems but I can add that to the FAQ too. The drivers
for these modems are mostly non-GPL so many distros don't include or even
search for them so it's worthwhile for a LUG to point out how people can
connect to the internet without extra expense and encourage them to leave
Windoze behind for the first time, at least for internet stuff. I'm all for
evolving but I think the starting point includes internal PCI modems - it
certainly does for anyone with a new PC. External modems can be 5-10x more
expensive than the internal PCI modem already fitted.

This will lead to a useful addition to the existing DCLUG content - if others
have ideas for what they would like to see in the 'online content'
information (perhaps a summary of a topic described in the archives to mak it
easier for people to get up to speed without having to skip across many
messages) then please let me know.
