Re: [LUG] Why don't they learn

What *exactly* is your point, Trev?

Like James, I too have had my share of cleaning up broken/hacked/abused
Linux (And Solaris) boxes over the years. It does happen, and don't
pester me to divulge my "secrets", however my daily rate is £550 +VAT in
Devon. It gets more expensive the further East I go.

And so-what if he just has a default site on his domain name? What makes
you think that is insecure and open to hacking?

And also what's the point of posting his domain 'whois' information? We
all know how to access it - what you did was hardly 'research', I mean,
you didn't even get his phone number. Isn't yours 01803***164? Hope the
fireworks I let-off on Brixham breakwater the other night didn't wake
you up...

At least James has a domain and not just an boring old AOL email
address, that's so naughties...

And James knows how to start new threads rather than just tacking onto
existing ones.

Bored now... And it's stopped snowing. G'Night!

Gordon
Hello Gordon and James
My point, is
1, James left his ftp access to install default, since closed.
2, James never read my first post, and it was me that started it so maybe you to did not read it. 3, the Whois report was to show that James was not exactly how he said he was. 4, personal details are all available via Company's House but had no bearing on the matter. beside to put that in a public Email would have been the pits. 5, Yes Gordon you did wake a lot of people up. What is more you left a lot of litter.
6, What James Domain or lack off has to do with it is puzzling.
7,For what it is worth I have a domain, no a number of them, as well you know. and as for my AOL email address I keep it with pride as it was one of the first in the UK, I have many others.

Now to go back to My point, is
In my first post I refered to Unix based individual users, not once did I mention Servers, it was James that gave so much about them. and James quote "There was a Linux kernel issue discovered" there is always issues being descovered and soon fixed (unlike windoze), the one you mentioned was I believe relevant to servers not user stations. The one thing I did find out last night is that software and night caps do not mix. Now please let us keep this as a Linux user group, not a Promotion for ones own business, if you can contribute with knowledge great other wise be like Dad keep Mum.
To all the other folk I am sorry this has got out of hand, not my intention.
Trev
