View->Message Body As->Plain Text will do this. Once set it seems to apply to all messages displayed.

Okay, I have now done this, but it still displays the reply '>' characters as pretty blue lines, and not plain text. Its doing something annoying to try and be clever. I don't like that.

and being able to set a default reply identity for
folders, rather than having to set up loads of seperate
identities with there own set of folders. KMail is much
tidier to use for someone with multiple pop3 accounts.
In my opinion anyway.

Yes that would be very useful. It is a pain to have to set up a separate account for each identity.

Yes, I don't have to do it in KMail, so KMail sounds like the best option so far.

Oh yeah, its junk filtering is great. If it put suspect emails in a seperate folder by default, like gmail, then it would be even better.

Take a look at Tools->Junk Mail Controls there is a whole section on moving mails to folders. Filtering is also very useful for this.

Okay thanks, but it would still be better if it did that by
default.

Considering Outlook is so bad, it seems strange to me that projects would want to model themselves on it. I really can't think of an email client I've used that is as bad as Outlook. My opinion of course, but emulating Outlook is not what I'm looking for in a good email client.

What don't you like about Outlook?

Same two problems as Thunderbird plus dodgy attachment handling, bad security, no way to actually turn html off in messages even if you want to, poorly designed interface compared to KMail. Its been so long since I used it, I can't remember everything. I expect some of my problems are subjective, and if there is a niche for linux email clients that emulate the M$ way of doing things, then I suppose its not a terribly bad thing. Its just not what I am looking for.
