[LUG]Re: Off grid technology resources

Hi Henry

No batteries at the moment. I have always used Alphaline XV24 MF. They are a leisure battery and have always lasted well.

https://www.gobatteries.co.uk/product/manufacturers/numax/xv24mf-numax-sealed-lesiuremarine-battery-12v-86ah/

The goal is a bit tricky. As it is a school everything will need PAT testing. And it current usage is nil. I have just bought a solar water pump. This will be to water crops but tempted to build a steam to demonstrate turbine power. Get the young people to make one from plastic cups and then plywood, etc to see what is the best.

Thanks

What are you using for batteries

Are you thinking of things to reduce electricity consumption (after the kids have been cranking for half an hour)
- Hay boxes / insulation
- led bulbs vs ..

Hi Guys

This is very off topic but I thought you might be able to help. I am
building a small holding at Fowey River Academy secondary school and
whilst a lot of it is practical education, there is also taught lessons.
The area will be off grid and so I will be teaching students how to
generate electricity. I am trying to find kits that will enable the
students to build something and then see it in action. Do you know of any
resources that will help please? I am thinking along the line of:
Hand crank to generate and store electricity - use different methods -
attach to a bulb and see which method is better
Water wheel
Solar in some way - possible in cooking as well as electricity

Any ideas please? Thanks.
