I expect any printer to last at least 8 (eight) years. However I only
do B&W and on a laser or rather a LED printer.

Perhaps (?)

Re set up of Wifi printer.
Will it need a 'smartphone' or a "working smartphone with a phone number".
Will it after set up work from your computer?

Reason.
But any old Android smartphone (without SIM) .
Method 1 try without SIM.
Method 1 try with SIM (burner. no contract [ or Lebara £5 SIM] )
Put no contacts on it except a single mobile phone number from a
temporary SIM. (Cheap 'burner' free or £1)
(No contacts to trace except you on that phone)

Download printer app. (Via Wifi, connect to your house WiFi as a
'temporary computer'. This is way I run a second hand phone from my
daughter. Reason below)
Set up printer.
Transfer to laptop
Check laptop accepts printer and operates printer.

Problem:
Will connection to Wifi on Laptop for printer scour your laptop for data?

REASON.
I wanted to see how smart phones worked.
Set up second-hand hand-me-down smartphone with no contacts except its
own number.
Downloaded an app [then not available on browser in laptop} to use in
CoVid-19 reporting. (Not the NHS one).

It works on on Wifi. Effectively a wee Android computer.
Never has been used as a mobile phone.
