Hi Henry

Three thoughts on this:

1.
Quite a few of the ebay (and amazon sellers) have no stock of webcams. I know this because I waited 3 weeks for one after lockdown started and got dumped. I was successful on the third try - but be prepared to wait, and not just for overworked delivery teams, but because some sellers aren't being entirely honest about their ability to fulfil your order. (Both ebay and amazon are good about refunds, but they can't refund wasted time)

2.
If you move off the definite brand names, there's no point doing a lot of research. There's a billion of these things and you won't know what Linux thinks of them until you plug 'em in. Yes, you can try to research, but even if you get exactly what your friend bought last week and worked fine, the firmware or chipset may have changed.

But - that said, probably most are compatible to a greater or lesser degree with a modern linux. You just won't be sure until you try. It might be worth checking your returns options first.

3.
At this lower end of the market, the claimed specs "1080HD, 30fps, technicolor and 3d" type claims are ALL bunk. But if you're not fussy, that's probably a fair reflection on their price.

As always with electronics: If the advert is in bad English, you know for certain you're not buying support or service.
