Does it? That's news to me.. I installed clean from the ISO I downloaded from Mint's own website. Weirdly their Update Manager claims 4.18.* and 5.* are not supported as long as 4.15.* which is the only reason I have not installed a 5.* kernel yet. And yes oops, I read this biit /after/ following your instructions.. d'oh!

It detects now in lsusb, which it wasn't before, However when I try to add a Wireless Network connection I don't know its MAC address etc. How do I actually use it now? Daft question I know!

Well you're most of the way there then which is a good start.

I tried 'sudo ifconfig enp0s10 down' which correctly knocked the wired ethernet offline [another bit of Mint weirdness it doesn't use eth0], however 'sudo ifconfig wlan0 up' gave an error that there was no such device. This is the output of both commands, followed by 'sudo ifconfig' and lsusb:

The ASUSTech device is the USB WiFi dongle.

Obviously until the wireless device exists in Mint the dongle will not work.

I have also heard that USB 3 is an issue in Linux. Although it is plugged in a USB 2 port of a powered hub, the device itself is USB 3. Could this also be an issue?

Kind regards,

Julian

PS. I keep seeing advice on forums to check the Device Manager but that has never shown me anything other than the Nvidia graphics card. I assume it only looks at cards plugged into the motherboard.
