Umn!!
I installed Skype for Linux on openSUSE XFCE to try after your question.
In my case
It does not load at start up
It is not present in Task Manager, unless I actively start it
On stopping a call, it ceases program active call, but leaves program
running which is then shut off by quitting Skype
Skype has always both on Windows and on Linux needed this confirm
secondary "Quit Skype"

NOTE. The absolute ability for it to run at start along with MS Outlook
is the desired default position to many multinational and domestic
companies with their own domain control. It shows everyone in company
who is logged on in the company and their current status.
This allows one to immediately know they can interact with person XXY in
Singapore in real time, and she in Singapore can she you are active.
This is of immense value in some intentional trade companies.
The company I worked for had about 6000 active computer users spread
over 17 nation states and with customers and service-folk active in 90
countries. Thus on log on, a serviceman in PR China would immediately
know I was logged in at office or at home [24 hours/day call position
response availability for my job]; he could interact for design advice
by phone, telex or computer.
(If our machines went wrong folk died! A fire on an offshore oil/gas
platform in Cabinda needed problem solving capabilities in real time
from USA communications hub to Uzbeks, UK, Uzbekistan (then position of
old original project engineer, Angola (original vessel positioning site)
and Cabinda {local logistics, military support [armed escorts kept our
staff safe during the civil war], sea /air transport to offshore),
materials and labour} all seeing others were present, and responsive).
MS Integrated sub-programs are designed to start at computer log on.
Some folks want this.

Each beast to his own desires.
