I use SMS messaging via https://www.gcicom.net/Our-Services/Unified-Communications/SMART-Messenger

I use it in a bespoke company scheduler to send our reminders each night (via CRON) based on a PHP/REST script that interrogates the database to find who needs them.

Piss easy.

When it comes to Wordpress, I tend to tie two 10' barge-poles together to poke it away. Can't help in that specific regard.
