Any ideas please? None of that is particularly good news. Firstly, is the dock known good? I.e., do you happen to know if it works flawlessly under Windows? If so, then this is just Linux being a pain. Could easily be a bad DVD - again, find one that is known good (might be best to stick with something really simple like a data CD rather than a film DVD - that brings libdvdcss, codecs and all other kinds of complications into play) and try again. Your mount command was correct, other than specifying a filesystem type but that really shouldn't be necessary in 2015. Hang on, wait a sec: just reread your error message and you *are* trying to insert a film DVD aren't you? I'd bet this is indeed because of stupid dvdcss. Do: sudo apt-get install libdvdread4 sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh And that should sort it out. If you try a data disk I expect it will work first time.
