I receive monthly reminders for 5 or 6 lists from organisations ranging from universities and software manufacturers to this list. They all seem to have the default settings and I've never once found the reminder useful as I recall, except as a prompt of Mailman's insecurities. I wouldn't miss it if it disappeared.

That said, I use a very low value password. That was changed from a slightly more valuable one when I received the first reminder years ago.

You must have missed my point about this being the default, and that I won't be the only one affected.Â

Surely it's of interest to a LUG not to be insecure in its processes?Â

I would argue strongly that storing and worse, transmitting, passwords is extremely bad practice and should be avoided wherever possible - at a global level.
