Going a little off subject, I've tried Chromium a few times and every
time I ditch it because when I open a link in a new tab, it doesn't. It
puts up the new tab in the background and you have to click on it to
open. This irritates the hell out of me. Firefox also does this by
default but it can be changed easily in tab preferences.  I've looked
all over chromium but if a setting is there it is obscure.

I prefer it to open in a hidden tab - I tend to pile up the links from an article for later perusal...
As for chrome - is it popular or does it just come with a chromebook and android?
I cant stand it for some reason

There's a handy Chrome/Chromium plugin called "Tab Manager"  which allows you to change all kind of tab behavior, including closing order, fore or back etc.

Thanks Mark & Simon. But why should I need a plug-in for what seems to me to be a pretty fundamental requirement? Firefox rules, OK?
