i too have had problem with linux on nvidia cards (and still do). my laptop (that uses a nvidia 8200M G) has problems installing unless i add the "nomodeset" option to boot. on my desktop i used a nvidia 8800gts and untill recently it was working fine with the nvidia drivers but now the text and screen goes blurry untill i move the mouse or window. i also think i've seen somewhere on youtube that linus told nvidia "to f**k off". i know that nvidia have refused to help make nvidia drivers for linux better. this seems to be a problem with nvidia being selfish and giving support to windows and mac users.
