More than a few linux systems are compromised and churning out spam. Perhaps not as many as Windows, but it's by no means a Windows disease.

To my own shame, one of my debian boxes a few years ago was compromised. (a misconfigured exim4 allowing relaying - entirely my fault) The first I knew about it was aa blacklist alert on that ip. I checked and it had been throwing out spam as fast as the upstream allowed for three days.

Embarrassing, and educating.
