Thanks for the 2p but I'm really specifically interested in Plex as
apparently it's the bees knees, but all I found was a horrid mess and a
push to signup for a cloud account to administer resources on my own LANs.

Already fully sorted for an all singing all dancing media server setup
personally but would like to keep up with the supposed latest and
greatest offers for setting up other people in the new hyper-connected
age of smartphones and streaming media/personal clouds.

Never heard of Hipserv before, at first glance it looks like it aims for
pretty much identical goals as Plex... complete with worryingly flashy
website inviting me to create an account and 'upgrade' (presumably to a
paid service of some kind... um, no thanks!). What is your "Seagate"
device, presumably not a bare hard drive? NAS of some kind?

Regards
