If you check /etc/default/grub for the line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" Try changing it to this instead: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor" And then do "sudo update-grub" and reboot.
