what do you get when you right click on the Sound icon (top rh near the
clock)? Use Sound Settings from this menu and on the output tab you
should be able to see Applications currently using sound. So open skype
and make a test call .... Skype will be listed in the apps playing and
recording. set the levels and or un mute.
