Can you write obfuscated code in it - yes but then you can in any language but as JavaScript has lived in the browser since the days of 2400 baud modems it is a language that has tools to compress the source to speed up downloading (and to a degree execution) which are also useful in maintaining IP and have been modified to make the code even harder to read - in effect creating a library and only idiots like myself try and read those. Don't blame javascript for the crimes committed using it. You can write good code with it, and as with any other language where the meaning of the code is not easily discerned from the code you can even comment it. Comments are not illegal in JavaScript just uncommon.
