Nvidia drivers: 319.17-0ubuntu1~xedgers~raring1 These are both Gnome-specific variables so it seems as if Gnome is at fault, rather than any part of Xorg or the drivers as I initially expected. As such, it follows that if anyone else is having the same issue they might well be able to apply the same fix whether they're using the Nvidia or Nouveau drivers. As I've previously mentioned, Nouveau just doesn't cut it for my usage so I'm not able to tell if it would work or not and having just spent too long getting my graphics problem sorted, I don't fancy touching it again anytime soon. If anyone else is using Nouveau and Gnome and experiencing screen tearing, it would be nice to hear from them if the same fix does indeed work (I suspect it will). Incidentally, this seems to be a recurring bug: whilst tracking it down online I found several other instances of it going back a few years. The absolute fix, believe it or not, is to not use a compositing window manager at all! As much as I love the minimalist Awesome tiling WM, for god's sake, it's 2013, my computers have got plenty of horsepower and even I like a bit of visual bling every now and then. I still miss the Compiz desktop cube...* Regards * I know I could go to the effort of knocking it back into Gnome3, I just can't be bothered. -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq
