In recent years, Apple has got away with dictating to users what they "want" from their products. Microsoft (with Win8) and Canonical are trying to do the same thing, so far without the same level of success. Whether that is because the Apple products are better or that Apple users are a bunch of sheep is open for debate.

whel I'm no big fan of Uuntu,  Myself I prefer KDE . My mum, she is 75. I delivered ultimatum about ten years ago that I would not keep suporting XE. So she now uses ubuntu 12.04. She likes this stuff. She finds no big problem  between gnome xxxffff. I even said "mum, you want windows, I give you windows". She likes what she has now, "I like this, I don't care what it is, I just want the the programs I use use and I want them to be in the same place...

this is linux has to be as desktop
