[LUG] OT: Android network name

 Hi All,

I have an Android phone and tablet, as does my friend, so when he is visiting a look at the connected devices in my router's WiFi section shows something like:

android_123456890
android_012345689
android_901234568
android_890123456

Is there any way, *without rooting a brand new phone and tablet*, to change the names on the devices themselves, so they display something more human-friendly, such as;

IconiaA500
GalaxySIII

(etc)

I know I can identify them by MAC address in the router and assign different names when I add them to the MAC filter list, but that still doesn't change how they are displayed in the Connected Devices, so I have to compare the MAC addresses of what's connected with the filter list to see which is connected.

I don't honestly see why this functionality is missing from Android to be honest as it seems fairly basic. My phone has Android 4.1.2, and I'm on O2 - just in case this is a function O2 have removed and it's on the SIM-free ones.

Kind regards,

Julian
