Sorry about top post, doing this from yahoo's web interface!
I scanned through your dmseg post and could not see any thing serious, the error or fail lines were not o/s killers! If you suspect your hard drive(s) install "smartmontools" and the kde or gnome front ends and check out the drives for errors.
Did you run "memtest"from the grub menu? It is best to run it for at least 12 hours to give all the ram a thorougher test, unless it shows errors in the first pass. You could try running the live Mageia disk over night if it runs ok that at least tels you its your Ubuntu installation thats has a problem

My thoughts are that the disk is failing some how. 

does the PC run from a bootable CD? with Mageia for a long period? 

if so its not the Ram or CPU
