Re: [LUG] Linux user group meeting

Hi Paul,

My problem started when running Ubuntu 11.10.  and has continued after installing 12.04. It is often difficult to be precise about when something first happens as may not show up till a prog is used. I used to play videos and download radio but can't now.

11.10 Ubuntu used Banshee as default. Tracks saved to Banshee some time ago can still be played. As far as I can tell you cannot burn CDs from Banshee

I downloaded VLC Media Player.  I suspect this began the problem.  There being a conflict between multiple versions of Flash? The screen tells me it is not installed but when I check it is and up to date. First Iost video then, some time, later lost sound eg couldn't listen to the radio live.

Now Rhythmbox is the default media player, with no choice appearing in the dialogue box.
When I download some speech with musical intro RB plays three notes stops and closes down!

When I look at Additional Drivers- none are listed
I live in Teignmouth

Regards
Alan

The paignton meets are generally more casual,  while we can help with
technical issues, it is worth noting the venue is up a flght of steps,
so it is not very practical to carry a pc + monitor etc up those steps,
given that the seafront is also closed to traffic during the summer.
Laptops are not an issue.

Can you give us some more information on the issue e.g

is it a fresh install did this problem start perhaps after upgrading to
12.04 ?

in the latter case you may want to check to see which codecs etc have
been removed during upgrade.  Look under additional drivers.  Failing
that if no one else can help or suggest things.  I am planning on
holding the June meeting at Paignton cricket club as that should allow
people to bring PC's in to the venue easier.

Where are you based ?

hope this helps.

Paul
