local police station usually local 0845 number, while they can't do much
they can at least log it,  and also warn others.

There is now a country-wide number for non emergency police matters and it's 101. You should be charged a one-off connection fee of 15p (possibly +VAT) with no on-going per minute fees. (And this applies to calls from mobiles as well as land-lines)

It's supposed to be country wide, but some phone systems may not accept 101 - yet - e.g. office PBX systems that might need upgrading.
