Hi Folks,

Thinking of getting the girl friend one for xmas. She uses (only)
linux (of course ;-)) so will need to be compatible. Ideally I would
like to be able to copy the data from the device in order to back it
up. Are there any built in mechanisms which prevent this? I believe a
new Nook reader is coming on the market soon (colour...).

Many thanks

To be honest I'd suggest a Kindle, it's all synced from the Amazon servers anyway so if it goes pear shaped you can re-download the ebooks.

Otherwise I think WHSmiths do one, Sony has just released an Android based one (all of which use eInk screens which are supposed to be readable in sunlight).

Failing that, a cheap Android tablet will do the job (although with an LCD screen it won't be as easy to read in sunlight).
