Redid and I am in. I think the problems I had were as follows

- set "require-mppe-128" in options.pptp
- set "domain\\username server_name password *" in chap-secrets
- changed the peers setting
    name domain\\username
    remotename server_name

Following on from
http://pptpclient.sourceforge.net/routing.phtml#automatic-setup

#ifconfig ppp0 | grep inet
yields

    inet addr:192.168.40.35 P-t-P:192.168.40.25 Mask:255.255.255.255

So
# route add -net 192.168.40.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 dev ppp0

How do I browse the files on server?

Midnight command and server username@xxxxxxxxxxxxx gives nothing

Problems

1) I do not appear to be able to see the server in Midnight commander
2) I can't see how to connect using mount

If I can I would prefer to use CLI. If not, then gnome it will be
