Recently one of the list members mentioned that he had set up his own
server for his emails. At the time it didn't register. Can anyone tell
me anything about this please?

What are the advantages, if any, and is it very complicated? I have
looked around Google and it looks rather messy to me.

Advantages?
I have complete control over what I do with my email
I don't think it complicated.

adsl -> ipcop -> mail server in dmz that does other stuff
             -> Mail mail store

Do email eomes in to my dmz spam filter/web server and then if forwarded on to my main mail store.

Disadvantages:
You are in charge of you own destiny, get it wrong and you might not have mail!

So I run a few machines 24/7, it's a drop in the ocean to what the kids use in a day :-O!!!

I think if everything is on there might 10 machines whiring away, could be more if I am developing stuff at home.

I must consolidate some of the tat!
