A good rule of thumb if you're at least 0.01% doubtful whether it was
genuine is to call (or email) back, using a number you found yourself
(in your administration, on the company's website etc.), not something
they gave you.
In this case you could have called your ISP or, had you been a Windows
user, Microsoft. They would hopefully have been able to tell you that
it was a scam, not coming from them.
('Just ignore them' would be a good advise too, but scammers know that
so they try to scare you by saying that not doing anything would lead
in loss of your account/money/house/kitten/whatever.)
